Lecturer/Adjunct Professor – UCLA Department of Information Studies (2006-present)
Instructor of record for core courses and elective seminars in UCLA’s nationally-ranked iSchool program. See Courses page for syllabi and descriptions.
Program Manager – UCLA MA degree in Moving Image Archive Studies (current position)
Primary duties include research and development of core administrative and curricular components of the program; fundraising and identification of supporting partnerships; creation of a technology infrastructure; refining the research agenda for moving image archiving and preservation; and review of curriculum to ensure continued innovation and sustainability.
Intern – Major Crimes Unit, Travis County Sheriff’s Office (2010-2011)
Under the supervision of senior Crime Scene Investigators, assisted with processing and logging evidence from new cases, updating forms and standard operating procedures, property room filing and item retrieval, and general administrative tasks.
Film Collection Consultant – The American Alpine Club (2008)
Conducted on-site inventory and inspection of the motion picture holdings of the Club’s library; trained staff in basic film care; rehoused and cataloged film elements; researched individual films to determine historical significance, provenance, and preservation priorities; made recommendations regarding future care and housing for films; co-wrote National Film Preservation Foundation grant proposal.
Public Access Coordinator – Academy Film Archive (2003-2006)
Responsible for establishing and operating the Archive’s new Public Access Center. Formulated, implemented, and updated institutional access policies; worked closely with Academy curators, library staff, preservationists, and outside researchers to improve access and awareness for 110,000-item collection. Served as initial and primary point of contact for research inquiries, print loans, prospective donations/deposits, footage licensing, and archive outreach efforts.
Editor/Applications Analyst – Department of Interactive Programs, The J. Paul Getty Museum (2002-2003)
Participated in design, development, and public launch of GettyGuide, the museum’s public collections information system. Managed all text updates for the kiosk interface; worked closely with programmers, writers, curators, and web staff to maintain accurate, engaging written content about art in the museum.
Digital and Media Archivist – Japanese American National Museum (1999-2002)
Primary administrator of the museum’s moving image collection and growing archive of digitized collection assets. Pursued and managed grant funds for moving image preservation and collection digitization; developed and executed collection policies; fulfilled licensing and reference requests; supervised interns and volunteers.
Research Assistant – Dr. Howard Besser, UCLA Department of Information Studies (2000-2001)
Provided research, administrative, and classroom assistance for Associate Professor of Information Studies. Conducted original research and interviews; compiled annotated bibliographies; and created graduate course web pages.
